# Desktop applications

Desktop software is a distributed client and should use client-safe telemetry credentials or a trusted gateway rather than privileged server API keys.

## Electron

Treat the main process as a Node.js runtime and renderer processes as browser runtimes. Preserve trace context between IPC boundaries when useful.

## Tauri

Instrument the Rust backend with OpenTelemetry and the web frontend with browser telemetry. Correlate frontend operations with Tauri commands without recording sensitive command payloads.

## Native desktop

macOS, Windows, and Linux clients should use their platform OpenTelemetry libraries or a client-safe collector path. Bind publishable Telemio ingest keys to the application identity when available and apply strict rate/event budgets.

Run `telemio setup desktop` for the setup model.
