Telemio vs Datadog

If you want strong observability without turning it into another platform to manage, Telemio is the easier place to start.

Product comparison based on public vendor documentation and pricing checked November 2, 2026. Pricing and packaging can change.

Datadog is a huge platform. Telemio takes a much simpler route. You send OpenTelemetry data, connect your coding agent, and work from one workspace.

For most small and growing product teams, I think that is the better starting point. You get the signals you actually use every day without having to choose, price, and configure a long list of separate products.

Why I would pick Telemio

Telemio gives you traces, logs, metrics, runtime context, errors, agent activity, and MCP in one place. The setup stays small, and the pricing is easy to understand.

The bigger advantage is the coding loop. Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, and other MCP clients can inspect the same telemetry you use. They can change the repo, run the app, and check Telemio again to see whether the change actually worked.

What Telemio does well

  • OpenTelemetry-first setup without a pile of product choices.
  • Application and AI-agent telemetry in the same workspace.
  • Coding-agent setup and MCP built into the normal workflow.
  • Simple self-serve pricing with free viewers.
  • A much lighter product to learn and operate.

A quick note on Datadog

Datadog has more enterprise features and a much larger integration catalog. That matters if you need deep infrastructure, security, RUM, profiling, or other specialist products. If those are not your main requirements, you may be paying for a lot of platform you do not need.

If Datadog is already in the company

You do not need a big migration to try Telemio. Start with a new service or product team. Keep Datadog where the company still depends on it, and use Telemio where a smaller setup and coding-agent workflow make more sense.

Price

Telemio currently starts free, then has Starter at $20, Growth at $50, and Scale at $150. Viewer seats are free.

Datadog prices many products separately. Current public examples include Infrastructure Pro at $15 per host per month on annual billing and APM at $31 per host per month, before other products and usage.

Bottom line

If I am building a product with a small or growing team, I would start with Telemio. It is easier to set up, easier to price, and much closer to the way teams are starting to build with coding agents.
